Straw wine: This particuliar wine has existed since the 3rd century AD. It was first exported from the Corrèze to Paris by Saint Eloi as a gift to King Dagobert in 622 AD. For more information about its history... Straw wine is only produced in a very small area situated around commune of Queyssac-les-vignes, on the hills above the river Dordogne. Straw wine is produced in either red or white varieties. Red grapes used include Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon and white grapes are of Chardonnay or Sauvignon. The making of Straw wine follow the strictest quality rules of the 'Appellation Control'. From the hand picking, the sorting, the drying and finally the pressing and fermentation processes all are subject to Apellation quality control procedures. For more information about winemaking... Taste advice : Like most sweet wines Straw wine is a little lower in alcohol (13%), Straw wine can be savoured just as an aperitif, and it is also an excellent accompaniment for cheese and deserts.
